PIETIE FREDRICKS YOUTH CENTRE(SLP 3)

PPC partnered with the Bergrivier Municipality in Piketberg to address serious challenges faced by the local youth by allocating an amount of R3,68m for the construction of the Pietie Fredricks Youth Centre.  PPC regards youth development as a priority due to serious challenges faced amongst the youth, with specific reference to early school leavers, joblessness, exposure to drugs and other related social evils.

The Centre offers after school classes with tutors assisting the children with homework, research and assignments. The Bergrivier Municipality partnered with ICA (Initiative for Community Advancement) to manage the centre as a home of excellence for youth in the area with the provision of skills programmes including life skills training, leadership development, career development and SMME Development training.

The construction of the centre created an estimated eighty jobs to the local community as 16 local building contractors were contracted to perform the work. The official handover took place on 31 October 2022, with about 200 youth and learners benefit from the centre daily to do their homework and engage in the various programmes offered by ICA. The Bergriver Municipality has taken full responsibility for the sustainable operation and upkeep of the youth centre, as well as the staffing of the facility.
